AL FUJAIRAH: The 1st Asian Billiard Sports Championship organized by the ACBS and hosted by UAE-BSA, began with a glittering ceremony at the Concorde Al-Fujairah Hotel in Al Fujairah, the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, September 24.
In his welcome address at the opening ceremony, ACBS President Mubarak Hamad Al Khayarin expressed his delight at the impressive turn-out and the quality of players on parade for the nine-day event which ends on October 2.
“I am happy to welcome all of you to this first-of- its-kind event to be organized by the ACBS. It is my belief that this tournament will serve as a catalyst for the further development of our sport in the continent. Without any doubt, billiard sports is spreading like wildfire across Asia and more people are taking to it by the day and we will not rest on our oars as we keep the flag of the sport flying. I wish all of you a happy tournament and a wonderful stay in Al Fujairah,” he said.
223 players from 17 countries are participating in the event which will see competition in 11 disciplines including English Billiards Men (100 Points Format), Carom One Cushion, Carom Three Cushion, 9 Ball Pool Men, 9 Ball Pool Women, 9 Ball Pool Double and Chinese 8 Ball. Others are Snooker Single Men (15 Reds), Snooker Team Men, Snooker Single Men (6 Reds) and Snooker Single Women (6 Reds).
